Hi Jim--

The SDNY has been investigating Trump for years. It's debatable where that litigation is given the firing of Jeffrey Berman and Barr's reign on the Justice Dept. (I made the orange jumpsuit joke more as a metaphor for his hair)

However, the State of NY with Trump's tax case--one of the first issues was "can a sitting president be prosecuted." It made it to the Supreme Court who held that yes, the president is not above law. Now the cases have been bouncing back and forth between the courts on the issues. Typical delays. One of which has to do with the president's taxes--which we know a lot more about since the NY Times huge story.

The most recent aspect of the NY case was the scope of the subpeona--and was the DA making too broad a request regarding the time span of the documents requested. That case is continuing and you are right, there is probably little that being a sitting president can do to block it. He can't be magically shielded from the State of New York.
